Christmas in St Kilda

Christmas has finally arrived and it has blown my mind that this past year has gone so quickly. So quick I am struggling to try and reflect on all of the amazing things I have done and people I have met. To think I was in Bali this time last year sending back my horrendous chicken burger with Lauren in Ubud! I am extremely happy to be spending it with my farm family this year in Melbourne!

Most hostels around Christmas raise their prices which is fantastic, so me and Olly started to look at Hotel prices. Amazingly we found a room for a week slightly further out of the CBD which was cheaper than a hostel in town. On Christmas Eve my Dad asked what hotel we were in and I assumed it was because of the recent terrorist attack arrests in Melbourne on TV, targeting a few Melbourne hot spots on Christmas day, but he wasn’t, he sent me to the nearest bar and when we arrived there was a bottle of champagne with my name on it waiting for me. Me and Olly drank it all and of course I fell asleep on the tram into the city as I am the biggest lightweight you will ever meet. Christmas day Olly managed to cook all of the Christmas dinner in the hotel room while me and Annie were getting ready. It was so good to have a roast again and I definitely had a food baby after consuming everything on the table. After we ate, we rang our friends and everyone was on the beach so we thought we would head into town and meet up with everyone. Around this time of year I get incredibly homesick and instead of sitting in trying to recreate an English Christmas, Olly and Annie dragged me out to experience an Aussie Christmas. It was the best day ever!! We were all completely wasted on the beach with about 6000 other backpackers, party goers and topless Santa’s. This Christmas was such a fun day, I really feel like I finally  got to experience a different kind of Christmas with a massive group of friends enjoying the day. We ended up at our friends apartment were we met some random dude who were in the Christmas spirit and paid for our Uber back to the hotel, result!!!

I am hilarious, the cards I sent home to the fam for Christmas!

Over Christmas Olly got a job working for a charity selling these foam ears on the streets of Melbourne. It helps he is incredibly handsome and approachable. The Chinese loved him!!!

Before Christmas came about we had some time to wonder the streets of Melbourne, walking down every single street art road we could find!

Everywhere I look in Melbourne I fall more and more in love with this city. People that compare Melbourne to London clearly haven’t been to either city as they couldn’t be more different. Melbourne has a much slower and relaxed vibe to it and in such a huge city, at certain times of the day it can feel like you are the only one around. I love Melbourne the most out of all the city’s I have had the pleasure of visiting in Australia and I will definitely be coming back here soon!
