Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan – The Federal Territory Mosque Kuala Lumpur

Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan - The Federal Territory Mosque Kuala Lumpur

Federal Territory Mosque, Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan Mosque and the Mosque in a garden are all names tied to this impressive religious building. Surrounded by a moat, this amazing building shows off the best of design combined with religion. The Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan’s architecture is a blend of many other famous mosque designs such as the Blue Mosque in Turkey.

This tour should definitely be on your list if you’re in Kuala Lumpur and want a cheap day out. This was one of the most educational days we had in Malaysia and we have walked away feeling like we have a wealth of knowledge of the local people here in KL.

Who Can VisitΒ The Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan πŸ§‘πŸΎβ€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘πŸΌΒ

The best thing about the Federal Territory Mosque is that anyone can visit. We are not the most religious people in the world, but we love learning about religions and seeing beautiful architecture.

Although you are not permitted inside on your own, you are allowed to take a tour which takes you around the whole mosque at certain times of the day. This tour was such an incredible and eye-opening day, we are so glad we visited. Everyone inside the mosque was warm and welcoming to us, which was such an amazing feeling.

Learning about local religions and people is something we both enjoy when visiting new countries. When we saw that we could take a tour of this beautiful mosque, we jumped at the chance to ask someone all the questions we had gathered while in Malaysia.

The tour is completely free of charge and is open to anyone willing to listen.

Our tour guide was an American who currently lives in KL and is a dedicated Muslim. He went above and beyond explaining everything to us in great detail. He made us feel so welcomed and encouraged our questions. No matter how stupid our questions were, he did his best to answer every single one.

What To Wear To The Masjid Wilayah PersekutuanΒ πŸ§•πŸΌΒ

Milly at The Federal Territory Mosque Kuala Lumpur

This question was our biggest concern when we planned to visit the mosque. In the current climate we are in (the screaming carrot demon climate) the last thing we ever would want to do is offend anyone, especially about religion. The Mosque is where Muslims come to worship, relax and socialise so it is important not to disrupt that with your presence.

It is respectful to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting this mosque. Don’t worry too much if you turn up wearing shorts, the tour guides will be able to assist you.

When you arrive for the tour, you will need to remove your shoes, so make sure your feet are clean. The mosque offers clothing to men and women who are not dressed appropriately. They will provide a dress for women with a headdress and a long skirt for men to put on over shorts. This is all given to you for free while you explore around the mosque.

When we visited here it was very hot, so we wore loose clothing. The clothes provided by the mosque ensured we would be respectful while walking around. We did get very hot though!

When we started to take photos, a local girl noticed me struggling with my headdress and came over immediately. She helped me to look picture-perfect, her words, and was so kind. The young girl also explained the difference between my headdress to hers and was extremely sweet.

After Kuala Lumpur, we visited Borneo and read about seeing Wild Orangutans.

Why You Should Visit The Federal Territory Mosque⁉️

We can’t guess what type of person you might be, but we can tell you what type of people we are. When we first arrived in Malaysia we were fixated with people watching. Walking around for hours just pointing things out to each other asking one another ‘Wow look at that’ or trying to guess why people were doing things or what they meant. We had lots of questions and no one to ask.

The beauty of travelling is learning about other cultures and religions first-hand. Visiting the Wilayah Mosque KL allowed us to ask questions and have things explained to us which was a huge eye-opener. We can honestly say that the Muslim people who welcomed us into their mosque are some of the loveliest people we have met travelling. That is why you should visit this mosque.

Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are one of Kuala Lumpur’s most famous attractions. Did you know that the steps haven’t always been painted bright in multiple colours? In 2018 some clever chap came up with the idea to paint the 272 red steps that lead to a Hindu temple at the top 🌈 They transformed the stairs into the brightly coloured rainbow you see today.

Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Towers are the most iconic landmark in Kuala Lumpur. The Petronas Towers Stand at 451 metres high, they were once the highest buildings in the world until 2004, when Taipei took the record. Only a short walk from the Pavilion Shopping Centre are the gardens that surround the towers. This is a great area to relax after lunch.

Kl Tower

The Kuala Lumpur Tower is less known than the Petronas Towers, but still as impressive. Standing at an impressive 420 metres the view from the top is incredible. You can pre-book tickets online with klook.
