What To Expect At The Lancelin Sand Dunes⁉️
You can expect sand as far as the eye can see. We were impressed with just has big and step the Lancelin sand dunes are.
If you are planning on sandboarding you can also expect sand in every nook and cranny of your clothes and body.
Combine this with the intense workout of climbing up to sand dunes for each run, it’s not quite like skiing in Australia.
Many people come here with 4wd 4×4 vehicles, motorbikes, or quad bikes and explore all the dunes have to offer. Imagine Mad Max, without the flames and killing.
If you do take your own vehicle onto the dunes, remember to let some air out of your tires and don’t get stuck. The fee to get towed out of the sand dunes starts at $300.
If you would rather book onto a tour starting in the city of Perth. There is a great Day Tour which includes sandboarding and visit to the Pinnacle Desert.

Lancelin Sand Boarding 🏄
The Lancelin sand dunes offers some of the best sandboarding in Western Australia. But remember Sandboarding in Lancelin is a lot of fun, but it can also be dangerous. Make sure you take your time and listen to the advice the board hire or tour company gives you.
All around the town of Lancelin there are places to hire sandboards and quad bikes, included the small kiosk at the bottom of the dunes.
Surfboards we are told will not work on the sand.
Sand Board Hire Lancelin
You can hire sandboards from the town or on the dunes. There is a small kiosk at the bottom of the sand dunes which shuts at 3:30 pm. If you are hiring from this kiosk the last time you can hire a board is 2:30 pm.
The boards from here are $13-$15 for a board and some wax to help you slide down the sand and stop the board from getting stuck.
What To Wear To Lancelin Sand Dunes 👗
Sand will get everywhere if you are like us and fall over a lot. We wore activewear as we thought tight clothes would keep the sand out. We were wrong but the leggings came in handy when it came to hiking up the sand dunes. The walk up the dunes is good exercise but exhausting after a while.
Trainers are advised as the boards have a wooden block to place your foot again whilst sand surfing down the dunes. You can do it barefooted but if you end up kicking the sandboard it is going to hurt.
Don’t forget your sunglasses, especially if the sun is out, the white sand reflects the light and blinds you. The same can be said for if it is windy, like when we visited. Your glasses will keep the sand out of your eyes. Just be careful not to lose them if you fall into the sand dunes.

Lancelin Campgrounds ⛺
There are two campsites in Lancelin, we stayed at a lovely campsite called Lancelin Caravan Park which had the cheapest rate for a powered site for our camper-van.
We paid $20 per person for a powered site. They have recently had a revamp and have brand new facilities which include a swimming pool and spa.
This campsite is right on the beach and next to the main part of town. Across the road to the campsite entrance there is a great bakery for morning coffee or a pie.
The lancelin Caravan Park is pet friendly which means you can bring your dog onto the campsite.
Ledge Point Holiday Park is another campsite a few kilometers south of Lancelin. This campsite is part of the BIG 4-holiday park. These campsites tend to be slightly more expensive. A powered site here is $45 per night. They only accept tents on non-powered sites.

Lobster Shack-Cervantes
Just south of Jurien Bay is the town of Cervantes. Whilst there isn’t much to do in the town, the main reason people visit is for the Lobster Shack.
This restaurant not only has a beautiful view looking over the ocean. It has some of the best lobster we have ever had. We opted to share the Lobster burger and chips which was enough for both of us and was delicious!
Address: 37 Catalonia St, Cervantes WA 6511
Our Personal Opinion Of The Lancelin Sand Dunes WA🗣️
This was the perfect weekend getaway for us. With the Lancelin sand dunes being a short drive away from Perth, we were able to drive here Friday night and not be exhausted. Olly loved seeing me fail at sandboarding and I loved seeing him excel at anything he tries. Sand-boarding at Lancelin was so much fun and we highly recommend it to anyone in Western Australia!
