Each day trip from Perth has been carefully selected to ensure you get to see the best locations surrounding Perth. We completed these days trips in our own vehicle. Whilst some locations such as Rottnest Island are easily accessible via public transport, others are not. We would highly recommend either hiring a vehicle for the day as this way you can tick of multiple locations off in one go.

Our Top 5 Day Trips From Perth, WA

1. Black Diamond Lake 🏊🏼‍♂️

Being the bluest lake we have ever seen, Black Diamond Lake in Collie is one of our top day trips from Perth. Only an hour drive south from Perth CBD, there is nothing better than spending the day sunbathing on a floatie with a few bears. This trip would be a self-drive adventure due to the lack of public transport in the area.

2. The Pinnacles & Lancelin 🏄🏻

Couple Sandboarding at Lancelin Sand Dunes]

Yes they are two different places but are both very close to each other. We actually spent a day at each location and still had time to visit a few smaller spots in between. If you have never tried sandboarding and want to show off your best Bambi impression, Lancelin is the place for you! The day trip from Perth to Lancelin was amazing. We spent a few hours exploring the sand dunes which was really fun, before heading down to the beach to relax and watch some amazing kite surfers.

Lancelin is only an hour north of Perth. This makes it the perfect place to set off to on Friday evening and spend all day Saturday here. Bonus- only another 45 minutes North are “The Pinnacles” which really has to be seen to be believed. This day trip from Perth is self-drive. However there are lots of companies you can book this day trip with at a higher cost. This huge dessert was honestly like walking onto a film set.

3. Margaret River 🍷

Probably the longest and furthest. Our day trip from Perth to Margret River covers everything!! Wildlife + Wine + Beaches + Food = Heaven!

Now, Margret River town is only small, but the area surround the town is pretty big. We original visited the South West coast for 1 day and crammed in as many spots as possible. We returned to Perth after our day trip and both looked at each other and said “We need to go back”. So that’s exactly what we did. One week later we returned but this time for a two-day trip. So yes, technically it was a three-day trip, however we did each section of this stunning coastline day by day and have broken down each location into individual guides starting with Hamelin Bay.

4. Busselton 🐚

Bussleton Jetty, Sout West Australia

Around two and a half hours South of Perth sits the town of Busselton. This beautiful sea-side town boast one very famous landmark. It is home to the second-longest wooden jetty in the world (who wants the gold medal anyway).

Now you might think “hmmm” a wooden jetty that doesn’t sound too exciting. However this jetty has several attractions along the 1.8 Km walkway. This includes an underwater aquarium at the very end showing off its amazing marine life. There is also a train to take you to the end for the lazy people out there. Our day trip to Busselton from Perth can be completed on public transport as there is a bus from Perth CBD. But this will increase your travel time to nearly 4 hours!.

5. Rottnest Island 🐻

Bathhurst Lighthouse, Rottnest Island

By far one of the quickest and easiest day trips from Perth to complete. Rottnest Island is located around 20 Km’s from the shoreline of Fremantle, Perth. Only a short ferry ride away, this slice of paradise is home to some amazing beaches and the happiest animal on the planet, the Quokka!🐻

The Quokkas family are part of the marsupial family which is native to this island and has become Instagram famous through #Quokkaselfies. This day trip from Perth can be complete easily with public transport as Fremantle train station next to the ferry port.
